Short description
The trail, belonging to the Montemuro SCI (Site of Community Importance), accompanies the valley’s descent towards the Bestança river, one of the few Portuguese rivers still without any human intervention in its water course. Bestança river originates in the Montemuro Mountains and extends for 13,5 km until it flows into the Douro river. Along the valley we can enjoy the well developed riverside vegetation, mixed with areas of oak trees, and ending in an area of meadows and pastures. The last panels can be found close to the “Prado” property, of the Vale do Bestança Defence Association, which aims to protect and conserve this sensitive ecosystem
