Short description
Macieira de Alcôba Biodiversity Station is a typical trail in a rural central or northern Portugal village, passing next to vegetable gardens, orchards, corn fields and ending in a pinewood, where we can still find old and majestic oak and chestnut trees, a testimony of the primitive forest that once existed in the Caramulo Mountains. Part of the EBIO’s trail coincides with the small trail PR3 – Trilho da Aldeia, signposted by the Municipality. You should also visit the Centro Interpretativo da Aldeia do Milho Antigo, in the old parish and town council buildings, which has a permanent exhibition about the landscape, arquitecture, territory, material and immaterial traditional culture associated with ancient corn.
