Short description
Fóios Biodiversity Station trail belongs to Serra das Mesas. These mountains belong to the western part of the Central Spanish Mountain Range. Beyond the Côa river spring, Serra das Mesas is the only area dominated by granitic rocks and it reaches Malcata’s highest altitude (peak at 1256 m). The EBIO is dominated by Mediterranean climate granitic mountain’s bushes. The trail coincides with PR3 – Nascente do Côa and also with the beginning of the Grande Rota do Côa. Following the Rota towards north you will find a second EBIO in the Miuzela picnic park. Close to the EBIO, there are another trails related with Rora do Contrabando (Contrabando trail).
